"Tony and Maxxie" is the first episode in the second series and the tenth episode of the E4 teen drama Skins.
This episode primarily focuses on the friendship between Tony Stonem & Maxxie Oliver, as Maxxie seems to be the only one taking care of Tony after his horrific accident in "Series Finale".
In terms of the show's continuity, "Tony and Maxxie" takes place six months after "Series Finale".[1]
Plot[]
Tony is shown to be physically and mentally changed by his accident, after suffering from a subdural hematoma. He has shown to have lost most of his characteristic wit and confidence that was present in Series 1. In a conversation with Maxxie's mum he states that "I'm stupid now" and on a bus he holds Maxxie's hand for security after a bus drives past. Having lost the ability to write among other disabilities, he finally manages to scribble his name by "dancing" his way through, with guidance from Maxxie.
Maxxie was dancing with in a trio, a black man, a woman, and him. After doing the whole routine, they fall on their backs on the center of the room. They complimented one another, while still sitting on the floor. The female takes her top off, tackles the other guy and kisses him. implying that they have a relationship. Maxxie shooks his head and bids them later. He stands up walks towards someone, while asking what did he think about it. Tony, the person who was asked, was staring at the floor. Maxxie called for his attention. Tony was quite dumbfounded and confused on what Maxxie was referring to. "The moves," he clarified. He recieved an answer of, "It's okay."
They were riding a bus. A loud bus counterflowing the one they're riding startled Tony, causing him to hold Maxxie's hand. He then, comforts him by saying that it's all right.
A group very young, or kids, chavettes greeted Maxxie. One wanted to know who he was with. He replied by saying his name. As chavs, Tony was asked, "What's up with you?". He told them that he is suffering from traumatic subdural hematoma with motor and perceptional complications. One of them clarified if he was "mental," which in turn he agreed. Still, the girls considered him hot and one even said that he was buff.
The episode introduces Maxxie's parents, Jackie and Walter Oliver, revealing Maxxie's surname, that he has a dog called Taz and his situation with his parents. After Tony's accident in series one and his subsequent brain trauma, Maxxie, Jal and Chris are the only friends who are still there for him. Like Maxxie, his father and even his dog dance in their spare time, although Maxxie struggles to convince his dad to let him drop his A Levels and audition for musicals in London. Though Maxxie generally comes from a stable home with loving parents, he remains subject to homophobic abuse from "chavs" on the council estate where he lives. It later turns out one of the chavs – Dale – is in fact gay after tackling Maxxie to the ground and kissing him at a later opportunity. Eventually in the episode, after Walter has had much time to reflect on his relationship with his son, they agree that he will at least continue his A Levels, even if he does not join his father as a builder afterwards as Walter would prefer.
Effy enters to the bathroom. Doesn't matter if her mother has traumas for what happened to her dear brother, she let's very clear her natural business has to be done.
