Skins: The Movie was an upcoming feature film that is based of the E4 television series of the same name.

The film was originally on track to be released in Summer 2011, but the film was unofficially shelved January 2012.[2][3][4][5]

Plot

By the time the movie was unofficially shelved in January 2012, nothing of the plot had been revealed.

Cast

Note: The list above is of the cast that were originally announced to have signed onto the project a few months after the official press release was released on May 27 2010.

Development

After about a year of speculation, the producers of the film issued an official press release to The Guardian on May 26 2010.

An official press release was also posted on the E4 website on May 27 2010, adding a bit more information than the one given to The Guardian.

It stated that the film is currently in preproduction and confirmed that shooting will begin September 2010 and the film's release date is set for a tentative Summer 2011.[9][10]

This film was to be the first collaboration between Company Pictures, Film4, and CinemaNX companies.[11]

Shooting

On May 27 2010, E4 announced that shooting was to take place in both Bristol and the Isle of Man beginning later in the year.[12]

Casting

The official press release states that the film will center around the "first" and "second" generations of Skins characters.[13][14]

It has been confirmed that Joe Dempsie will not be in the film as his character Chris Miles will not be included. The writers explained that since Chris had already died in the series, it would have been odd to place him in the film and they did not want him to appear as a "ghostlike" character. [15]

It has been reported that Luke Pasqualino will probably not be included in the film, as his character Freddie Mclair has also died in the series.[16][17]

It was also revealed that the "third" generation will make a cameo appearance in the film.[18]

On June 4 2010, it was reported that Dev Patel and Nicholas Hoult have signed on to reprise their roles as Anwar Kharral and Tony Stonem respectively.[19]

On September 15 2010, it was reported that Kaya Scodelario has signed on to reprise her role as Effy Stonem.[20]

Release

Originally scheduled to be released in Summer 2011, by January 2012, creator Bryan Elsley revealed that setbacks have caused the film to still be in the pre-production stages.[21][22][23]

By April 2012, the film was unofficially shelved, with creators Jamie Brittain and Bryan Elsley revealing bits of information for the film's script, including that Effy, Naomi, Emily, and Cook were some of the characters included in the script.[24][25][26]

In February 2013, Brittain later revealed on his official twitter that it was decided to do three tv-film specials instead of a film in order to wrap up the show (which would eventually become Series 7.)[27]
